The most useful sample is built from a clear brief and reviewed against agreed requirements. If the intended fit, artwork, size data or decoration method is still uncertain, those questions should be identified before the project moves toward bulk production. Compare the main options in our custom jersey decoration guide.
Define what the sample needs to prove
Different projects use a sample for different reasons. A team may need to confirm roster artwork and equipment fit, while a private-label brand may need to establish measurements, construction, labels and packaging.
Product specification
Share the garment type, intended use, desired fit, size reference and important construction details.
Artwork package
Provide usable logos, colors, placements, names, numbers and sponsor marks with clear references.
Brand requirements
List labels, hangtags, packaging and any information that must appear on the finished product.
Check the sample in a consistent order
Reviewing one category at a time makes feedback easier to understand and reduces the risk of overlooking a detail.
- Overall silhouette, intended fit and ease of movement
- Key garment measurements against the approved size reference
- Fabric hand feel, weight, stretch, ventilation and opacity
- Panel layout, seams, stitching, reinforcement, collars, cuffs and closures
- Artwork scale, placement, color appearance and decoration method
- Names, numbers, sponsor marks and roster spelling
- Brand labels, size labels, hangtags and packaging requirements
Give feedback that can be acted on
Comments such as “make it better” or “the fit is wrong” do not identify a measurable change. Mark each revision on a photo, measurement sheet or artwork reference and keep all decisions in one current version.
Identify the location
Name the panel, seam, artwork element or measurement that needs attention.
Describe the change
State the requested result with a dimension, placement reference, color reference or annotated image.
Control the version
Date the feedback and clearly identify which file or sample replaces the previous reference.
Review the details that change by sport
Ice hockey
- Fit over protective equipment
- Collar and shoulder construction
- Ventilation and decoration zones
Baseball
- Button alignment and placket
- Piping and sleeve details
- Names, numbers and roster accuracy
American football
- Fit over shoulder pads
- Panel and reinforcement layout
- Number scale and placement
Turn the approved sample into a clear reference
Approval should identify the accepted sample or revision, measurement information, artwork files, colors, labels and packaging details. If a change is made after approval, record the new instruction instead of relying on a separate message thread.
